31 May Huia talks up Manawa ora on Te ao
Manawa Ora incoming! Our executive director, Huia O’Sullivan, spoke to Neil Waka on Te Ao Māori News to talk about the upcoming Manawa Ora: Te Hīhiri production at Q Theatre in July, as well as the decade’s worth of work Ngā Rangatahi Toa has done using creative arts and wellbeing programmes to allow South Auckland youth to connect with their purpose.
“Through the pandemic, what we wanted to be able to highlight and show is that even though it’s chaotic, our children don’t need to be in chaos, and understanding that you can have flashes of lightning and be awesome, and still have chaos around you,” Huia tells Neil in the clip, referring to Te Hīhiri, or the flashes of lightning that are the creative inspiration behind this year’s Manawa Ora show. “The spark refers to just before the lightning hits the ground, and to be that spark that creates change in your life.”
You can watch the clip at this link, and buy tickets to Manawa Ora here! The show runs July 20-22 at Auckland’s Q Theatre. See you there!
